About Casa Pombal

Casa Pombal is a small bed & breakfast on the top of a hill in the historical heart of Coimbra. This old townhouse is utterly unpretencious and will stir feelings of nostalgia for those student years.

The rooms are basic, decorated in ‘brocante style’ and each with its own portuguese atmosphere. Most rooms have private bathrooms, some have a beautiful view over the city and the river Mondego.

Included in the price is a ‘dutch style’ breakfast served in the common room, decorated with fine tiles. Guests can also meet on the small vine-covered patio or enjoy the view from the ‘Miradouro’.

If you have a food allergy, please let us know so we can take this into account with breakfast.

Due to the limited number of rooms, personal care is guarenteed. Her staff are very willing to give lots of local information. For our guests we have free internetfacilities.
Please note that Casa Pombal is a 100-year-old townhouse in the historical centre; it is not easily accessible for less mobile guests (small stairs, 3 floors and no lift) and the streets around are all cobbled stones.

The name

Pombal is the name of a city and also of a famous person, Marques de Pombal. (www.wikipedia.com)

‘Pombal’ is portuguese for dove-cot, a hospitable residence where travellers are heartly welcomed.
